Sicario is a 2015 action thriller movie directed by Oscar nominated Canadian director Denis Villeneuve. It stars Josh Brolin, Emily Blunt and Benicio Del Toro in lead roles.
The film was highly acclaimed by critics and general population alike and was nominated for 3 Oscars and won 15 other awards with 157 total nominations. Despite being made on a modest budget of $30 million, the movie had a decent box office collection of $85 Million.

Then came a sequel. With the critically acclaimed Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan as the screenwriter and Stefano Sollima as director, Sicario 2 did decent at the box office as well, making almost $76 Million against a $40 Million budget.
While there have been rumours of a 3rd part circulating for a while, Josh Brolin says that another sequel will most likely not happen, as the industry has changed so much in the past few years, more people and more and more studios are wanting more high budget movies to be made, keeping low budget classics such as Sicario away from the limelight.
As he told Variety:
“These people that I got to work with aren’t necessarily doing a lot of films now. All these people that you’re talking about, Paul Thomas Anderson, it’s tough for him to do a film. Paul’s become a really close friend, and I loved working with him on ‘Inherent Vice.’ I can’t wait to see what he does next. But I think he knows that these types of movies are not necessarily getting made so much anymore, $20-45 million dollar movies.
Would ‘No Country [for Old Men] get made today? Would ‘True Grit’ get made today? Would ‘Sicario’ get made today? ‘Sicario 3,’ we’ve been trying to get that right and get that going, but why hasn’t it happened? How long can you wait? A tough movie to get made even though the two made money, and people are asking about it all the time.”
While Josh Brolin previously indicated that a script for Sicario 3 has been written, but now the future seems very bleak.
