After his firing, there were reports that the script could be changed, but actor Dave Bautista supported Gunn and threatened to leave the movie if the original script was not followed.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 could deal with the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, where the group is now searching for a 2014 Gamora with the addition of Thor in their team. While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 was supposed to release in the summer of  2020, it has been then delayed for a long time. Now it looks like, the pacing has increased. The movie could soon enter production and shooting will start as soon as James Gunn is free from Suicide Squad.
