When the show reached its 6th season, it had already covered the material written in the books. The last two seasons of Game of Thrones were created by discussing the narrative with Martin. He revealed that the end of the book series will be similar to the end of the show.

Martin has also said that although there will be some differences between the two, the person who emerges victorious will most likely be the same in both. However, that is no reason for fans to abandon the Game of Thrones books, as there is a lot of ground that the show did not cover.

Game of Thrones Show not completely faithful

Winds of Winter release date Game of Thrones bookMartin said,

“There’s no way to get in all the detail, all the minor characters, all the secondary characters. The series has been extremely faithful compared to 97% of all television and movie adaptations of literary properties. But it’s not completely faithful. And it can’t be. Otherwise, it would have to run another five seasons.”

The release date of the last two books The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring are yet to be announced. Now that the show has ended, Game of Thrones fans can expect Martin to pick up speed and finish the GOT novel series soon.
