Doctors were shocked when they found a tampon that had been there for two years inside a patient.
Melanie Galeaz from Massachusetts, USA, talked about her painful experience on the app TikTok. This made people confused.
Melanie posted a video in which she said that when she was a teenager, she left a tampon inside of her for two years. She said it was not her “proudest moment.”
The video went viral, with more than 16 million views, and a lot of people had questions, which she answered.
Melanie talked more about her experience when she was asked how she didn’t get Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), which is a life-threatening condition caused by bacteria getting into the body and releasing harmful toxins.
She started by saying that a tick bite had given her Lyme disease when she was a child. Melanie had all of the symptoms, but the test results were “confusing” and hard to understand.
She was given the right medicine, and the symptoms went away. However, it wasn’t until she was in high school that she started to feel “pain” in her body and noticed “gross things going on down south.”
Melanie said she was too embarrassed to tell the doctor what was going on, so she hoped that the way she felt was related to the Lyme disease she had been diagnosed with before.
She took the medicine she had been told to take before, and it helped with the pain. However, her problems “down south” kept coming back over the next two years.
She finally went to the gynecologist, who “cranked her open” and “gasped” when he looked inside her vagina.
She says, ‘you have a tampon stuck horizontally under your cervix’,
she recalled.
Even though the gynecologist found it hard to believe that the tampon had been there for two years, doctors thought that it might have caused an infection, which was why she was in so much pain.
She told the people watching that she and the tampon had “broken up,” but TikTokers couldn’t get over how shocking her story was.

I left one in for 2 weeks in before on accident and it smelt HORRENDOUS. that’s crazy.
A source says that tampon makers advise that a tampon shouldn’t be left in for more than eight hours.
In some rare cases, the use of tampons by women has been linked to TSS.
