True love doesn’t care about how tall, short, or old someone is. We often forget how important real connections with other people are and instead focus on labels and outward appearances. But couples like Alicia and Scott show us that love and happiness come from the inside, and they teach us not to judge people based on how they look.
Alicia McCarvell has become well-known on social media; thanks to her funny posts and efforts to promote body positivity. Even though she has millions of fans who admire her and follow her adventures, she also gets criticism and hurtful comments about her marriage.
After a viral video got attention for what she thought were the wrong reasons, the content creator decided to speak out. Alicia posted a clip of the transformation trend in which she and Scott are first shown in towels and then fully dressed. People who didn’t know the couple at all were cruel in their messages and comments, saying they couldn’t believe that Scott, who is physically fit, could love a plus-size woman like Alicia.
The woman from Canada talked about some of the assumptions she has to deal with every day:
Oh, she was probably not fat when they met,’ or ’she must be rich,’ ’he must be gay,’ or ’he has a fetish for fat women.’ We have been led to believe that someone who is physically fit, like Scott, could never, in a million years, be in love or be compatible with a fat woman.
People don’t often hear that Alicia and Scott have been together for 16 years. When they were in school, they fell in love for the first time. They have stayed together through many challenges, supporting and respecting each other and celebrating the love they have for each other at every stage of their lives.
Alicia said that when she lost her job and was at a turning point, it was her husband who helped her the most to find herself and follow her dreams. That’s how they got the idea to post funny videos of their life together. They wanted to show how happy and funny they were all the time. Also, Scott wanted the whole world to know how charming Alicia is because he thought other people would love her as much as he does.
Alicia made a great choice when she decided to become a content creator, which led to her getting millions of followers. She has also learned important lessons about self-esteem from the people she has met. The current social media star had self-doubt and said she used to think like other people and feel like she didn’t deserve Scott’s love for a long time:
I believed if I didn’t like myself, how could he?
Alicia has admitted that her low self-esteem and lack of confidence caused a lot of problems in her marriage. But as she got better at accepting herself, she realized that the way she saw herself was nothing like how Scott saw her. One of her most important pieces of advice is to stop making assumptions about our partners and to remember that they may see us differently than we see ourselves.
Alicia realized that her husband’s love for her has never changed, but that she has. This means that he can now love her the way he has always wanted to.
This made her start responding to the criticism and negativity they get online by teaching people how harmful false beauty standards are and how important it is to see people for who they really are and what they are worth.
The world looks at us and immediately gives more value to Scott than to me,
shared the influencer.
She told everyone that her husband had gotten messages from thin, conventionally attractive women telling him that he should be with them.
Me telling myself for most of our relationship that I am not worthy of his love due to my body is exactly the same as this thin woman telling him that she is worthy of him due to her body,
Alicia also said that people often ask her if she feels jealous that Scott gets so much attention. But the influencer stressed that she feels safe in their relationship because she knows her husband loves her for her sense of humor, hard work, and kind heart, not for how she looks or how much she weighs.
Alicia wants people to focus on what makes them who they are on the inside instead of just how they look. Since these beauty standards have been around for a long time, the influencer knows that society puts too much weight on them. She insists, though, that we can change that and that it is everyone’s job to get rid of prejudices.
