A suspicious package was found near the White House and since then, it has been under lockdown. The US Secret Service and journalists in the building made the announcement.
On Monday at 4pm BST, the White House was put under lockdown as reported by the journalists who gathered in the press briefing room. Reporter Megan Pratz said,
We are literally locked in here. We can’t see much but Secret Service officers just ran across the lawn.
In a statement, the Secret Service shared the news via the social media and also made an announcement that they are looking into the suspicious package matter which was found on Pennsylvania Avenue. The place is a few minutes away from the White House.
The pedestrian traffic routes were made unavailable to the public. The Secret Service announced,
Secret Service Uniformed Division Officers are responding to an incident involving a suspicious package located on Pennsylvania Ave.
Pedestrian traffic as well as Pennsylvania Ave were closed between 15th and 17th streets and also included Lafayette Park. The Secret Service officer also briefed the reporters and asked them to stay inside the White House.
Second Lockdown in a week
Ms Pratz reported that the Secret Service did not want anyone out on the North Grounds as all the camera positions are there. This press briefing came after a hundred days’ silence from the White House. This is the second lockdown in a week. previously, the officers detained a man when he tried to jump a bike rack and threw his backpack into the White House perimeter.

As per the public schedule, President Trump is in the White House at present. He was taking a picture with the 2019 Presidential Scholars when the lockdown happened.
