Klay Thompson’s Contract Extension is Unclear
An NBA Insider, Adrian Wojnarowski, has revealed that Klay Thompson has no progress on his contract extension with the Golden State Warriors.
Wojnarowski said:
“I’m told that there has been absolutely no progress on a Klay Thompson extension in Golden State.”
“They are both still apart on years and money. And there’s a very real possibility that Klay Thompson goes into free agency next Summer without a deal. And I think that’s where it gets complicated for Golden State.”

Ex-Warriors executive Bob Myers asked about extending Klay Thompson’s contract, said:
“This is why I left, first of all.”
He continued:
“A lot of times, people will say, ‘this is just business.’ But, this is not a ‘just business situation’. This guy…There’s going to be a statue of this player outside of Chase Center. He was instrumental in bringing four championships. He’s beloved inside the organization, the fanbase. It’s not so simple as it’s money and years.”
Could the Warriors trade Klay Thompson the Next Season?
In the last season, Klay Thompson led the NBA with the highest 3-pointers as he scored around 301 shots from the 3-point. The veteran scored around 4.1 rebounds in the last season.
While it would be a tough decision for the Warriors, breaking the trio of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson won’t be an easy choice.
The Warriors have not yet discussed Thompson’s extension. Furthermore, there is no timeline to extend Klay. They have a lot of time to think whether or not they should extend Klay.
As of now, Thompson is not looking for his trade destination. Thompson said, in an interview with Slater:
“I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else. To play for one franchise, man? That’s so rare. In any sport. Football. Baseball. Basketball. Australian Rules Football. To play for one club is insane. It’s some real legendary stuff. Even what Udonis Haslem did. He’s revered in Miami.”
