Johnny Depp is suing his ex-wife, Amber Heard, for $50 million over an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in which she described herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse”. He claims that the publication cost him lucrative acting roles.
From 2015 to 2016 they were married. They are accusing each other of acts of physical violence during their relationship and have both denied the other’s claims.
The trial is expected to last around 6 weeks but has already produced some memorable moments. Alejandro Romero, who worked as a doorman at the apartment building where Heard and Depp lived, gave recorded testimony from inside his car in which he was seen smoking and driving at one point.
Heard’s attorney called it bizarre. Penney Azcarate called the moment a ‘first’. “I just got to say, I’ve never seen that before. I’ve seen a lot of things, but I’ve never seen that,” Azcarate said.
