Explosions took place at three churches and three hotels in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka in the morning of 21st of April, 2019. At least 129 people have died in these explosions and over 300 people have been injured. These explosions took place on the festival of Easter.

Details on the Sri Lanka Bomb Blasts

As per a police spokesperson, the blasts took place around 8:42 AM when people were gathering for the Sunday mass. The three five-star hotels that were targeted in these attacks were The Cinnamon Grand, The Kingsbury and The Shangrila, reports from the Press Trust of India inform.

The first of these explosions took place at St. Anthony’s Church in Colombo while the next one took place at St. Sebastian’s Church in Negombo, right outside the city.  Another church was also targeted in the town of Batticaloa. 6% of the population of the country is Catholic while Sri Lanka is a Buddhist majority country.

The President of Sri Lanka, Maithripala Sirisena addressed the media right after this tragedy and appealed the citizens to maintain calm. He expressed shock over the explosions.
