Benson Boone is a singer-songwriter from the United States. He participated in American Idol in early 2021, where he competed for a short time before choosing to withdraw. Following this, he gained significant popularity on TikTok and later secured a contract with Night Street Records.
Who is Benson Boone?
Benson James Boone was born on June 25, 2002, in Monroe, Washington, to parents Kerry and Nate Boone. He was raised alongside his four sisters: Kaylee, Natalee, Emma, and Claire.
Boone completed his education at Monroe High School, where he participated in both the competitive diving team and the tennis team under the guidance of coach Bret Ingham. He graduated in 2020.
Benson Boone’s musical aptitude came to light when a friend requested that he play the piano and sing at their high school’s battle of the bands in his junior year, even though he had no previous vocal experience.
He later attended Brigham Young University–Idaho in Rexburg for one semester before taking a break from his studies to pursue music.
Career
After attending a Jon Bellion concert, Benson Boone was motivated to pursue singing more earnestly. He began posting singing videos on TikTok at a friend’s suggestion and auditioned for the 19th season of American Idol in early 2021.
Although he was invited to Hollywood Week, he opted to withdraw from the competition shortly after achieving a place in the Top 24 to prioritize his career. His performances during Hollywood Week were not shown on TV.
Benson Boone started posting excerpts of his original compositions on TikTok, where he garnered 1.7 million followers before launching his debut single.
He attracted the interest of Dan Reynolds, the lead vocalist of Imagine Dragons, who subsequently signed Boone to his record label, Night Street Records, in collaboration with Warner Records.
This partnership was publicly announced on October 15, 2021, coinciding with the release of Boone’s inaugural single, ‘Ghost Town’.
Boone contributed drums, guitar, and piano to the recording while also creating the artwork for the single. He showcased the song on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, and Late Night with Seth Meyers in the United States, subsequently achieving chart success in 14 countries, including the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S.
Benson Boone debuted his second single, ‘Room for 2’, on February 18, 2022. In May 2024, Taylor Swift took to social media to announce that Boone would be among three artists supporting her Eras Tour at Wembley Stadium in London, alongside Paramore.
Boone was the opening act for Swift’s show on June 23, with Mette and Griff performing as the opening acts for the June 21 and 22 shows, respectively.
Benson Boone performed twice at Coachella 2025, notably delivering a rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody. During his initial performance, he was joined by Queen’s guitarist Brian May, which Pitchfork criticized as ‘horrible,’ ‘godawful,’ ‘insipid,’ ‘galling,’ and ‘the type of performance that raises doubts about the value of this entire medium.’
Additionally, at Coachella, he announced his upcoming second album, American Heart, scheduled for release on June 20. He will promote the album with the ‘American Heart Tour’ across North America in August, September, and October 2025.

Benson Boone was brought up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but he no longer identifies as a member of the Mormon faith.
