We at Hiptoro love to learn about interesting things from the past, especially if they come with old photos to show them. This time, we’d like to show you what a very important job—that of a drafting technician—looked like before computers took over. A drafting technician can work in many fields, from architecture to manufacturing, and is in charge of engineering drafts, architectural drawings, and house plans. Simply put, no building is ever made without them.
Some jobs are lost because of changes in technology, but for drafting technicians, it just made their desks smaller and cleaner. AutoCAD came out in 1982, and by 1994, it was being used in as many as 750 training centers around the world. Before, drafting took a lot more time and a lot more tools, like pencils, erasers, and t-squares. And the pictures below prove it. You can almost hear the paper rustling when you look at them. Now, most architects, electrical engineers, and other drafters do most of their work by clicking the mouse and typing on the keyboard.
