Wimbledon has planned to introduce tie-breaks in the final set from 2019 onwards. The game would be played at 12-12 in the Wimbledon’s final set. This news was announced by the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
This decision was revealed after the final set in the semi-finals match that prolonged more than 3 hours between Kevin Anderson and John Isner.
Later Anderson from the South African team, who eventually won the final set for 26-24 score, initiated for a reassessing of the format.
The AELTC felt the same and said that it was high time to introduce a new tie-break method, which would be used at a reasonable point during a deciding set.
The first team or the player who would reach 7 points and has an advantage of 2+ points would be the winner.
This would apply to all the Wimbledon matches including – men’s, women’s, qualifying, mixed & junior singles as well as doubles.
