People have said that a new scary movie, The Outwaters, is so “traumatic” that some people have had to leave the theater to “throw up.”

The Outwaters is a found-footage horror film written and directed by Robbie Banfitch. It promises to be unlike any other horror film.

The movie’s official synopsis reads:

An excursion to the Mojave Desert turns creepy when a group of campers start to experience unexplained sounds, vibrations, and unnatural animal behavior.

Then one night everything changes, sending the foursome on a mind-bending trip through terror.

The Outwaters opened in some theaters on February 9, and reviews are still coming in. So far, the movie has gotten a good 71% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Noel Murray of the LA Times said that The Outwaters “feels like a first-person view of the end of the world.”

People who watched The Outwaters, are also giving it high marks on social media. For example, people are flocking to Twitter to praise how strange the movie is.

One person said that their Apple Watch told them when their heart rate went up.

Wow. @TheOutwaters left me stunned to the point that my Apple Watch heart monitor kept going off for high heart rate. This film is a mind trip and downward spiral into hell. Another big win for Horror,

they wrote.

I’d say tonight was pretty damn eventful! @RobbieBanfitch you’re amazing, hilarious, and this rewatch of @TheOutwaters has solidified my opinion that I believe this to have one of the most horrific and traumatizing sequences i’ve ever experienced in a found footage horror film 🤭 pic.twitter.com/2bm7WNozK7

Surprisingly, this was also said by someone else, who wrote:

Another fan who had to use the sick bag wrote on Twitter:

I’m still processing #TheOutwaters. I am not sure if it worked for me. The sounding made me so uncomfortably dizzy that I had to leave the theatre to vomit. This never happened to me before. It’s more disturbing than scary if that makes any sense.

Mike Flannagan, who made scary movies like “Haunting of Hill House” and “Midnight Mass,” was also impressed. He tweeted:

Damn, THE OUTWATERS is wild. A first-person jaunt directly into hell, a real cosmic horror head trip. Kudos @RobbieBanfitch and everyone involved.

On The Outwaters‘ official Twitter page, fans were recently given tips on how to get the most out of watching the movie.

In order to fully appreciate our film, we do recommend watching on the biggest screen possible, turning off the lights, putting away your phone, and turning up the volume. There’s a lot to see and hear in the darkness.

And then in the burning, bitter sun.

In an interview, Banfitch talked about what he thought was the hardest part of making his new horror movie.

Getting it right, and the time that it took,

she said.

I was never going to enter it into a film festival unless I felt it was good enough, and it took a lot more time than I thought to get it to the place where I was ready to enter it.

“Just the process of trial and error, edits and feedback, I suppose, was the most difficult in terms of being time-consuming. Life is short, you wanna make sure you are working on something that you are really passionate about if you spend years on it.
