Sometimes coincidences can be too unbelievable to believe. Something similar happened to a single mom from Colorado who decided to start her life all over after a divorce. She was all on her own post-separation in her 30s. To change the flow, she bought a new house and moved into it, and made a career shift. After receiving an email from her pastor, the single mom realized that she might have an interest in fostering a child. The call to do so came after she discovered her fertility issues in the past.
Katie Page fostered four children at various times but was ready to adopt and raise a child of her own. She received an e-mail from a caseworker which mentioned a nameless 4-day-old boy who was left at the hospital. For almost a year, Katie fostered the child. She named him Grayson and his parents were never found. Moreover, the court terminated his birth parents’ rights and the single mother was relieved as she was deeply in love with the little one. Katie was legally allowed to adopt Grayson and she did that on his 11-month-old birthday. However, merely two weeks later, she made a decision that changed her life forever.
Single mom adopts boy and a girl who are biologically related
Katie gets a call from a caseworker about a baby girl who is at the hospital. She was in need of immediate placement. The single mom, at this point, is terrified but her gut tells her to go for it. She says, “I know over the next 10 minutes and subsequent phone calls I made that afternoon, the phrase ‘I know I am crazy, but God is telling me to say YES’ kept coming out of my mouth.” Welcome, Hannah, who enters Katie’s home and her life.
The big revelation comes after the single mom notices the name on Hannah’s baby bracelet which is the same as Grayson’s. Moreover, Katie checks Hannah’s discharge papers as well. She finds out that Hannah and Grayson were indeed siblings. Katie writes on her blog, “Grayson is half African American with beautiful darker skin and dark curly hair. Baby Girl has a pale white skin tone with straight red-blonde hair.” A DNA test confirmed that Grayson and Hannah are biological half-siblings.
