Richard Rankin on Season 5
It is time until the fifth season of Outlander is out, but the cast members are revealing a lot of secrets in the time being. Recently, actor Richard Rankin who plays the character MacKenzie has shared his views on Outlander season 5.
The show is in very early stages for adapting the books. I know they’re compiling a lot of things from the books, while keeping the flavor same. Book adaptations will always be tricky, especially with the fifth. There’s quite a lot of it in the first part with Gathering alone. But I feel that they are doing an amazing job with it.
It looks like Richard makes it quiet clear that adapting the book into a TV show is very difficult. Outlander season 5 might borrow just a few elements from the book series, as it is too large to be fully adapted.
Outlander: Books vs TV Show
The fifth book in Outlander series is titled, ‘The Fiery Cross’ and most of the season 5 of the show will follow it. But it will skip some of the complex events from the book such as Jaimie killing Murtagh, the marriage of Brianna and Roger along with baptizing newborn babies.
Even season 4 of Outlander tried to adapt the fourth book, ‘Drums of Autumn’ and it was crammed. If the makers are taking any notes, they would take care of the pacing of Outlander season 5 and adapt only selected stories from the book.
Release Date and Episodes
Outlander Season 5 will be released near the end of 2019 in November of December. It is stated that there will be a total for 12 episodes in the fifth season of Outlander. The show is premiered on Starz network and Amazon Prime video streaming service depending on the location.
