Given that foldable smartphones were all the rage at the MWC 2019, one would wonder why OnePlus 7 is likely to stay away from this technology. Let us take a closer look at this upcoming flagship smartphone from OnePlus and understand why it won’t feature a foldable screen. Why Would OnePlus 7 Not Feature a Foldable Screen?
We do not expect the OnePlus 7 to feature a foldable display because of Carl Pei’s recent comments. Pei, the co-founder of OnePlus continues to be one of the most influential voices in the company. In a recent statement to Trusted Reviews, Pei commented that smartphone markets these days are more about the function than about the actual technology.
Pei commented that while foldable smartphones have been provided bigger displays – no one has really thought about the user experience (UX). He added that no new and interactive models have been introduced and foldable smartphones are just regular smartphones with larger displays.
Foldable smartphones are a very new introduction in the markets. Because of this reason, it is unlikely that companies will introduce flagship smartphones with this feature. Earlier, we noticed that even Apple isn’t too keen on launching a foldable iPhone.
OnePlus 7: Expected Specifications
Details from SlashGear point out that the OnePlus 7 is going to feature a pop-up camera. This camera will be placed on the top-left side of the phone. The phone is also expected to feature a 12MP+20MP camera on the back along with a 3D time-of-flight sensor.
The new OnePlus display (which is not expected to be foldable) will be quite large. The phone is likely to come out with a 6.5-inch display. The phone will have at least 95% screen-to-body ratio. OnePlus 7 is also going to feature an in-display or under-display fingerprint scanner. The phone is also expected to come with USB Type-C port for charging. Headphones will also be Type-C.
Furthermore, the phone is also expected to feature 8 to 12 GB of RAM options. This will bring the phone on par with the Samsung Galaxy S10. The OnePlus 7 is likely to feature a 512GB expandable storage. However, the camera will be the highlight of the device!
OnePlus 7 Launch Date
As of this writing, there is no official launch event for the OnePlus 7. However, OnePlus usually launches its smartphones in May-June. We expect a similar launch pattern this year too. This puts the release date of the latest OnePlus 7 flagship as Summer 2019.
