Warriors Insider Speaks Out: Core Players, Including Draymond Green, Will Not Be Traded
The interview was given by an anonymous member from Warriors who stated:
“It was the only decision to re-sign Draymond.”
“We were never going to break up the core. They’ve had too much success and we won the title two seasons ago. Why would we move off that group now?”
According to the anonymous member, the owner of the Warriors, Joe Lacob, wants Draymond to retire with the franchise. The owner also wants to retain other players like Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry till their retirement.
This is due to the fact that these 3 players have achieved so much for the franchise by winning 4 NBA Championships. On top of that, the team has reached the finals six times with these 3 players.
The anonymous member said:
“Certainly, we’d like Steph, Draymond and Klay to retire as Warriors,” Lacob told Madeline Kenney of the Mercury News. “That is my goal, our goal, and I think it’s a good likelihood that’ll happen.”
Curry, Green, and Klay to Stay with the Warriors
Apart from Draymond Green, Curry also signed a 4-year contract with the Warriors for $215.4 million in August 2021. Curry has to play for the Warriors until 2026, as he can’t be a free agent till then.
When it comes to the stats, then Curry has won a Finals MVP along with 2 season MVPs in the Golden State Warriors.
While, Klay Thompson is likely to extend his contract with the Warriors since his contract is ending this year. He signed a $189.9 million five-year deal with the Warriors in 2019. However, due to Achilles and ACL injuries, he missed two consecutive seasons in the NBA.
