John Schlossberg

Who is John Schlossberg?

John Schlossberg, son of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, was born on Jan. 19, 1993. He is the sole grandson of former President John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy Onassis. He was given the name John Bouvier “Jack” Kennedy Schlossberg in honor of his maternal grandparents.

Outline
  • Who is John Schlossberg?
  • Education at Harvard
  • Career

John Schlossberg, career

John Schlossberg has two sisters who are older than him. One is a filmmaker and the other is an actress. Their names are Rose Kennedy Schlossberg, who was born in 1988, and Tatiana Kennedy Schlossberg, who was born in 1990. Even though Jack and his sisters were not raised in the public eye, he sometimes shares pictures of them.

John received his undergraduate degree from Yale University and pursued his M.B.A. and J.D. at Harvard Law and Business School. He successfully passed the bar exam in 2023 and shares his family’s enthusiasm for environmental issues and politics.

John and his mother appeared on the Today show in 2017, marking Jack’s first time on live television. During the interview, he explained how his family’s past serves as an inspiration for him.

“I’m inspired by my family’s legacy of public service. It’s something that I’m very proud of. But I’m still trying to make my own way and figure things out. So stay tuned — I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

At times, it can be quite a burden to uphold this family’s heritage. During a 2017 interview with PEOPLE, he discussed the parallels drawn between him and his grandfather. John said,

“I’m trying to be my own person and do my own thing. We live in a really different time than he did, and I’m trying to figure out what I’m really interested in and what I want to do.”

From 2013 to 2017, Caroline, John Schlossberg’s mother, served as the U.S. ambassador to Japan. After graduating from Yale in 2015 with a degree in Japanese history, Jack relocated to Japan and worked at Suntory, a distillery company.

Education at Harvard

In 2017, John Schlossberg enrolled in Harvard Law School after completing his studies at Yale in 2015. He shared with Boston.com that he was pleasantly surprised by the amount of knowledge he was gaining soon after starting his classes.

“Harvard Law School is great. I’m lucky to be here,” he said. “It’s a really difficult, intense experience. But I know so much more than I did the day before I got to law school, so that’s a cool feeling.”

John Schlossberg, JFK grandson

Additionally, he mentioned that it was somewhat odd to witness his grandfather’s name prominently displayed throughout the area. In 1940, JFK completed his studies at Harvard, and today, buildings and a street on the campus bear his name.

“My favorite restaurants are on JFK Street, so I definitely notice it. It’s humbling, but overall it’s nice that it’s just out in the open. There’s no pretending that it’s not here when I’m at Harvard … now I don’t think about it so much.”

John Schlossberg completed his joint M.B.A. and J.D. program at Harvard Law and Business School and graduated in March 2022. In April 2023, John marked a significant milestone in his legal journey by successfully passing the bar exam.

Career

Due to his family background, it is understandable that John Schlossberg possesses a strong voice and is actively involved in politics. He served as a page for former Senator John Kerry in 2009 and 2010 and also interned for the Senate in 2011.

Although he has not fully committed to pursuing a career in politics, Schlossberg has become more involved in the public eye through his work with the Profile in Courage Awards and the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, which recognize global leaders.

John Schlossberg, lawyer

In 2020, Schlossberg represented his family at the Democratic National Convention and has accompanied his mother to numerous public gatherings. In December 2022, he was photographed with his mother and sister Tatiana while meeting with Prince William at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.
