Joaquin Pheonix is The Joker
Joaquin Pheonix, an actor most popularly known for his roles in Gladiator, Her, The Master, and several other movies is going to play the role of The Joker. This was confirmed in 2018 by Todd Phillips.
Joaquin Pheonix will be the fifth actor to play the character of Joker in cinema. In the past, Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, and Jared Leto had played the role. Jared Leto’s Joker got mixed reactions after suicide squad. However, it will be interesting to see if Pheonix lives up to the hype!
Release Date for Joker Movie
The release date for the Joker movie has been tentatively set as 4th of October, 2019. The shooting of the film ended sometime in December 2018. This was teased by Todd Phillips via an Instagram post where he is seen sitting somewhere in a hospital.
The wall behind Phillips reads “NO UNSURPRISED PATIENTS ALLOWED.” However, this has led fans to speculate if this might actually be the infamous Arkham Asylum.

More Details About the Joker Movie
One thing that stands out about this Joker movie is the name, Arthur Fleck. Throughout the Batman franchise, Joker’s real name has been one of the best-kept secrets. However, the real name of the Joker has never actually been revealed. On some occasions, it has been ‘Jack’ or ‘Jack Napier’. However, this is the first time we hear the name ‘Arthur’.

We know that the story is based in the 1980s, where we see the transformation of Arthur Fleck from a failed comedian to Gotham’s most feared criminal. However, this is not the first time the origins of The Joker are being explored. In the past, we have seen this attempted in ‘The Killing Joke’, where Mark Hamill returned to voice the Joker!
Another interesting detail that we know about this movie is that it is not a part of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The Joker movie is a standalone film. Events of this movie are unlikely to affect the storyline of the DCEU movies. However, we also know that this movie is going to feature the character of Thomas Wayne. Bruce Wayne’s father, once the Mayor of Gotham, will appear in the movie!

No official trailer for the movie has been revealed so far. However, a small ‘screen test’ video has been released. In this video, we see Arthur (Joaquin Pheonix) standing in front of a wall with images of the Joker projecting around him.
