Episode 5: A Recap
In the fifth episode of Great Expectations, the plot thickens as Pip delves further into the world of crime and deception. Pip, struggling with his conscience, is shown smoking and having hallucinations before Jaggers summon him for a new task. It is revealed that Pip’s rival, Compeyson, is after something that Pip possesses and that he needs to be cautious.
Meanwhile, Miss Havisham introduces Herbert as a potential husband to Estella, who refuses to reveal her intended wedding date. Miss Havisham puts Herbert to the test, watching him dance with Estella, but afterward, Estella tells Miss Havisham that she is going to wed Herbert, which makes Miss Havisham furious.

Jaggers and Pip engage in a lengthy discussion about Compeyson, and Joe shows up to talk to Pip. Joe tries to express his concerns, but Pip is dismissive. Jaggers then arranges for Pip to be taken to a location where he will be protected from potential problems.
Later, Compeyson arrives at Pip’s house, and Jaggers shows up with a weapon to his head. In the meantime, Estella appears to be on the brink of suicide, but she is stopped by Magwitch, who reveals that he is her father. Jaggers and Compeyson fight over Magwitch’s decision to give Pip the entire robbery proceeds, while Estella doubts her faith in Magwitch.
The episode ends with Magwitch telling Estella personal stories about his past, urging her to inform Miss Havisham that everything is about to change.
