We love caller ID on our phones because it lets us know right away if we know the person calling or not. We sometimes let it go to voicemail if it’s not a name or number that’s already on our phone. When we don’t do this and answer a call from a number we don’t know, we sometimes end up talking to a telemarketer.
The job of telemarketers is to sell things. We understand that, but we don’t like getting calls from people trying to sell us things we probably don’t need or want. This is how a lot of people feel.
People have different ways to stop telemarketers from calling them. As we’ve already said, one way to stop them is to not answer the phone when they call. Another common strategy is to end the call quickly as soon as you answer the phone. This could be as easy as putting the phone down or making up a reason to put the phone down.
One man named Donald Sizemore has thought of an even better way to end a telemarketer’s call. In his case, all he has to do is talk for a few minutes, and the telemarketer will hang up on him! Sizemore does really well with this method, but it won’t be easy for everyone to do the same.
How does Sizemore get a telemarketer to stop calling? He talks just like Donald Duck, and he does a great job of it.
Gayle Sizemore, who is married to Donald Sizemore, got a call from a telemarketer one day. The telemarketer asked to talk to her husband while the phone was on speaker mode. Sizemore knew right away that his wife was talking to a telemarketer, and he already knew what he was going to do. He tried to sound like Donald Duck when he talked to the telemarketer. After a few minutes, the telemarketer got off the phone on her own.

Even though we can’t all talk like Donald Duck, this could teach us something about how to talk to telemarketers. If we can be more annoying than the telemarketer, maybe the telemarketer will be the one to hang up.
