A 61-year-old butcher was killed when a pig that had been knocked out suddenly woke up and went after him. On Friday, January 20, the incident happened at the Sheung Shui Slaughterhouse when the animal woke up and attacked the person who was supposed to kill it. It looks like the butcher was getting the pig ready to be killed, so he shot it with an electric gun. The situation quickly changed, though, when the angry pig knocked him down and he seemed to drop his 15-inch meat cleaver on his own foot.
Local media named the butcher Cai. A coworker found him with the cleaver in his hand and his left foot bleeding heavily from the wound. Local news said that an ambulance took him to the hospital, but he was later pronounced dead. On Friday, Hong Kong’s Labor Department started looking into what they called “a fatal work accident.” Even though the police haven’t found out what killed the butcher yet, it looks like he got hurt when the struggling pig knocked him over. Reports haven’t said for sure what happened to the pig that was thought to be the killer.
The Labour Department is saddened by the death of the person and expresses its deepest sympathy to his family,
the department said to CNN.
We will complete the investigation as soon as possible to identify the cause of the accident, ascertain the liability of the duty holders and recommend improvement measures. We will take actions pursuant to the law if there is any violation of the work safety legislation,
a department spokesman said.
The city’s Food and Environmental Hygiene Department also sent its condolences to the butcher’s family and said it was “very worried about the accident at work.”

But the department also said, “The slaughtering service remains normal, and the supply of fresh meat is not affected.”
No one knows for sure if the pig got away. Pigs aren’t usually mean, but they can be when they’re trying to protect their young. In addition, they are thought to be very smart.
