Sheila Escovedo, also known as Sheila E, was an American vocalist and percussionist who frequently performed with the renowned artist Prince. The biological father of Nicole Richie, Peter Michael Escovedo, is the brother of Sheila E.
Moss and Escovedo both had significant involvement in the music business because they frequently toured with well-known performers like Lionel Richie and Prince.

Karen Moss and Peter Escovedo were in a relationship and they later had Nicole Camille Escovedo. When Nicole was two years old, her parents took her on tour with Prince in 1983. Moss and Escovedo chose to accept Richie’s invitation to stay in an unoccupied wing of his Bel Air estate after Prince’s tour concluded. However, the ex-couple was touring frequently. Brenda Richie, Richie’s ex-wife, thus insisted that the young child stay with her whenever they were gone.
Lionel and his wife persuaded the Escovedos to give up their kid when Nicole was four years old. “The heartbreaking part is that once Nicole Escovedo legally became Nicole Richie, it felt like we lost her. We all lost her,” said Escovedo.
Nicole grew up as Richie’s daughter and experienced all the benefits of being the daughter of a famous person. Nicole established herself as a socialite and fashion designer in addition to being the well-known Richie family daughter. She was a well-known face from the 2003–2007 season of Paris Hilton’s reality TV show, The Simple Life.

But Nicole’s life wasn’t without its problems. She was known to have used drugs and alcohol excessively and to run afoul of the law on multiple occasions. In her early 20s, her experiences with psychoactive chemicals led to addiction to heroin, cocaine, and alcohol. Furthermore, because of her weak appearance, there were rumours that she suffered from eating issues.
Nicole was taken into custody in 2002 for misbehaving at a club. She was arrested in Malibu the next year for possessing heroin and operating a vehicle without a licence. After being sent to a rehabilitation facility for treatment, she was detained once more on suspicion of driving under the influence after failing a sobriety test.
Richie was there for his adopted daughter through all of those issues. Despite giving her daughter away, Moss was there for her as well. Seeing Nicole’s addiction as a family issue that needed to be resolved, she, Lionel, and his ex-wife Brenda checked Nicole into rehab.
