Debraca Denise Foxx is known as the only child of the renowned stand-up comedian Redd Foxx, even though they were not related by blood.
After Redd died in 1991, she was appointed as the executor of his estate, but disagreements with his fourth wife, Ka Ho Cho, led to the involvement of a public administrator.
Debraca Denise’s Childhood
Debraca Denise was born in 1947 to Betty Jean Harris, an American dancer and showgirl. Redd Foxx met Betty a few years later at a nightclub where they were both slated to perform.
They got married in July 1956, and the comedian adopted Debraca, raising her as if she were his own. Betty left her job in the entertainment industry to become a full-time housewife.
She later oversaw Redd’s business dealings and coordinated his schedule during the pinnacle of his career.
After 18 years of marriage, Redd filed for divorce from Betty in May 1974. The end of their marriage was marked by conflict, prompting the comedian to file a restraining order against her.
Career
Debraca Denise worked briefly alongside her father. She was featured in a 1977 episode of the sitcom Sanford and Son (1972-1978) in the role of Doris Martin.
Redd Foxx portrayed the main character, Fred G. Sanford, in the series. She also had a minor role in the sequel, Sanford, which aired in 1980.
Denise has not been involved in any other acting projects. In 2015, she appeared on Unsung Hollywood (2014-2018), a documentary series that profiles talented and influential Black celebrities from the fields of Hollywood films, television, comedy, and sports.
Personal Life
In June 1975, Debraca Denise Foxx tied the knot with Ralph Russell, a businessman based in Los Angeles. The opulent wedding, costing $40,000, was hosted at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
Her adoptive father was noticeably absent following the tumultuous end of his marriage to Betty Harris. The father-daughter bond was eventually restored. Debraca and Ralph Russell had a son, whom they named Paul Hiles.
