A shocking announcement came from the family of Sum 41’s lead, Deryck Whibley, revealing that the 43-year-old musician is currently battling pneumonia, leading to hospitalization. The news was shared by his wife, Ariana Cooper Whibley, on Instagram. Alongside an emotional picture of the Toronto-native being escorted to an ambulance, Ariana wrote, “We spent the entire night in the ER and will now be spending the next few days here in the hospital as he fights through pneumonia.”

Reflecting on that dark time, Whibley once confided in PEOPLE, saying, “We said, ‘We’re going to take our lives seriously at this point and figure this s— out.'”
Opening up about his sobriety journey, Whibley later told Vice, “Now I’m feeling better than I’ve ever felt. I’m healthier. I’m in the best shape of my life.” The duo sealed their bond in a Los Angeles wedding in August 2015.
