Australia has been warned by a number of experts that it is only about time before it is hit by a tsunami which would be devastating.

The experts have further added that the coastal cities of Australia have been really very fortunate enough that its coastal cities have not been struck up by a series of destructive waves which were triggered by the impacts of the meteors or by the seismic activity.

The past experience of Australia has not been a pleasant one, where the waves have crashed with cliffs which were as high as 60 metres and has sent sea water to towns situated almost in the centre of the country, reaching up to almost 50 km west of Sydney.

The co-director of the Australian Tsunami Research Centre, Dale Dominey-Howes has said that the country is posed to a great threat by tsunami at the University of New South Wales. He further said that if the natural disaster occurred unannounced on a Saturday afternoon in summer then the impact it would produce would be catastrophic and its only about time that before they are affected by this destructive devil.

Earthquakes and landslides are the triggering agents or the major factors responsible for causing another natural disaster, tsunami. However, meteor strikes can also trigger tsunami and these strikes are harder to detect until the last moment and thus the tsunami caused by them would also go undetected until the waves are so close to the shores that the destruction is inevitable.

Dr. Ted Bryant, who formerly belonged to the University of Wollongon and is also an expert when it comes to tsunami fervently believes that no detection system build with the best of technology would not necessarily be able to detect the coming or rather falling of a comet or meteor which as a result would trigger the oceanic waves to cause tsunami.

Evidences have been found by Dr. Ted Bryant that tsunamis in the past have been powerful enough to wreck the east coast of Australia. He said that he found evidences of a tsunami that hit the Shoalhaven delta on the New South Wales which is on the south coast near Nowra some 4,000 to 5,000 years ago, splashing waters and drowning the coast to more than 10 km in land from the coast.

There are also evidences of the tidal waves reaching the Blue Mountain which are located to kilometers inside the coast. The waves of tsunami which occurred in 1461 reached 60 km high but could not reach to inlands as stated by Dr. Ted based on certain evidences.

As a result of such great threats from the water, the coast line of Australia is monitored round the clock for any sign of impeding tsunami waves to raise alerts.

The Australian Tsunami Warning System (ATWS) project has resulted into a comprehensive warning service which works independently and is designed to warn the public, media houses and all the emergency authorities of any threats imposed by the oceanic waves tending to turn into Tsunami .

At the time of earthquakes, seismologists of the Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre (JATWC) try to determine the intensity of the earthquake possess the potential to cause tsunami which in return will cause threat to Austalia.

In case of a high probability of threat, the Bureau is ordered to raise a threat warning along with a issue to national tsunami watch.

The JATWC also monitors sea levels to re access and update its information about the threats and also to verify it.

If there are signs of threat confirmed by the data observations, the Bureau will take immediate actions, issuing warning to the states which will be affected and also to other emergency authorities.
