Robin Tunney was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 19, 1972. She is the daughter of Cathy, a bartender, and Patrick, a car salesman. She grew up in Orland Park, a suburb, and belongs to the Irish Catholic community.

Tunney attended Saint Ignatius College Prep and the Chicago Academy for the Arts for her schooling. Additionally, her cousin, Tom Tunney, is a Chicago alderman.

Career

Tunney’s on-screen career started in 1992 with her appearance in the comedy “Encino Man,” featuring Sean Astin and Brendan Fraser. She landed a more significant role in the coming-of-age flick “Empire Records” a couple of years later, which initially received negative reviews but eventually gained a devoted fan base.

The supernatural horror movie “The Craft” in 1996 was a bigger hit, with Tunney sharing the screen with Fairuza Balk, Rachel True, and Neve Campbell, and also achieving a cult following in the following years.

In 1997, Tunney had a standout year with her roles in “Julian Po” and “Niagara, Niagara.” She received the prestigious Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival for her performance in the latter.

Additionally, Tunney also starred in the crime movie “Montana” and the action-packed horror film “End of Days,” where she co-starred with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

In the early 2000s, Tunney appeared in two movies: the survival thriller “Vertical Limit” and the science-fiction action film “Supernova.” She also acted in “Investigating Sex,” “The Secret Lives of Dentists,” “Cherish,” “The In-Laws,” and “Paparazzi.” In 2005, Tunney took on roles in the psychological crime thriller “The Zodiac” and the independent drama “Runaway.”

The year after, she played the lead in “Open Window” and had smaller parts in “Hollywoodland” and “The Darwin Awards.” She then had roles in “August,” “The Burning Plain,” and “Passenger Side.”

In 2012, she took on the lead in the comedy “See Girl Run.” Her acting portfolio also includes the biographical sports flick “My All American,” the suspenseful movies “Looking Glass” and “Monster Party,” and the psychological drama “Horse Girl.”

Robin Tunney tied the knot with film producer and director Bob Gosse in 1997, but their marriage ended in divorce in 2006. She was then engaged to film director Andrew Dominik from 2009 to 2010. On Christmas Day of 2012, Tunney became engaged to interior designer Nicky Marmet. Together, they have a son named Oscar and a daughter named Colette.
