Who Is Rashard Mendenhall?

Rashard Mendenhall was born on 19th June, 1987 in Skokie, Illinois in the United States of America. He was born to Sybil Mendenhall and Walter Mendenhall Sr. He has two siblings; a brother named Walter Mendenhall Jr. and a sister named Venessa Mendenhall. Mendenhall attended Niles West High School and he also studied at Lincoln Jr. High School in Skokie, Illinois. He furthered at the University of Illinois.

Outside of the football field, Mendenhall developed a penchant for the written word in high school. He began with song writing and subsequently became interested in short fiction while attending college. His varied professional trajectory would be defined by his combined affinity for sports and books.

Rashard Mendenhall’s Career

The Pittsburgh Steelers noticed Mendenhall’s extraordinary skills in 2008 and chose him in the first round of the NFL Draft. From 2008 to 2012, he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. His time there paid off as he won a Super Bowl and had a standout 2010 season, with 1,273 yards and 13 touchdowns to cement his status as a potent running back. At the start of the 2008 regular season, Mendenhall was the youngest player on the Steelers. He took on returning responsibilities in addition to his running back role.

Mendenhall was able to start his NFL debut when Willie Parker was injured going into the fourth week of the 2008 campaign. In the fourth week of the 2009 season, Mendenhall took over for an injured Willie Parker at the starting position. He ran for 165 yards and two touchdowns in his NFL debut against the San Diego Chargers.

Mendenhall ran for 1,108 yards and seven touchdowns in 2009, but his 2010 season was even more impressive. In 2010, Mendenhall assisted in leading the Steelers to their second Super Bowl appearance, which they lost to the Green Bay Packers. In 1,273 yards, he scored 13 touchdowns on the run.

Mendenhall departed the game against the Cleveland Browns on the penultimate play of the first quarter of the 2012 regular season because of a knee injury. When it was discovered that he had torn his ACL, he was immediately placed on the IR list. By year’s conclusion, Mendenhall had amassed 928 yards of rushing.

Mendenhall missed a game against the San Diego Chargers on December 12, 2012, and the Steelers organisation punished him for that game. This came after Mendenhall was inactive due to inconsistent play.

At the age of 26, Mendenhall announced his retirement from the NFL in March 2014, saying; “Football was pretty cool, but I don’t want to play anymore. I want to travel the world and write!”
