Rachel Brosnahan was born on July 12, 1990, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Carol and Earl Brosnahan, both of whom were involved in children’s publishing.

Her mother hails from Britain, while her father is an American with Irish ancestry. From the age of four, Brosnahan grew up in Highland Park, Illinois. She has one younger brother and one younger sister.

Rachel attended Wayne Thomas Elementary School, followed by Northwood Junior High School. She engaged in musical theater throughout her junior high and high school years.

While at Highland Park High School, she was part of the wrestling team for two years and worked as a snowboarding instructor.

When she turned 16, she took a class with Carole Dibo, the director of Wilmette’s Actors Training Center, who is now her manager. Brosnahan graduated from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University in 2012.

In 2010, Rachel Brosnahan began her television career with guest roles in “Mercy,” “The Good Wife,” and “In Treatment.” The next year, she made an appearance in an episode of “CSI: Miami.”

Brosnahan obtained her first notable television role in 2013, portraying Rachel Posner, a prostitute, in the Netflix political thriller series “House of Cards.” She remained with the series for its first three seasons and was nominated for an Emmy Award for her outstanding work.

Rachel Brosnahan held a key role in “Manhattan,” which was on air from 2014 to 2015. In 2015, she starred in CBS’s two-part adaptation of Alice Hoffman’s “The Dovekeepers.” Later, in 2016, she featured in Woody Allen’s Amazon Prime Video miniseries “Crisis in Six Scenes.”

In 2017, Brosnahan attained her most notable recognition to that point when she began her role in the Amazon Prime Video series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”

She played the central character, Midge Maisel, a Jewish housewife from the 1950s in New York who endeavors to establish a career in stand-up comedy.

The series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” was a remarkable success, airing for five seasons through 2023 and winning numerous awards, including an Emmy, a SAG Award, and two Golden Globes for Brosnahan’s remarkable performance.

Rachel Brosnahan made her cinematic debut with a minor role in the 2009 supernatural horror film “The Unborn.” Two years later, she took on a significantly larger part in “Coming Up Roses,” where she starred alongside Bernadette Peters.

In 2012, Brosnahan featured in the thriller “Nor’easter,” and in 2013, she was cast in the romantic gothic fantasy film “Beautiful Creatures.” Following this, she appeared in two short films directed by Ari Aster, titled “Munchausen” and “Basically.”

Additionally, Brosnahan starred in the 2014 film “I’m Obsessed with You (But You’ve Got to Leave Me Alone).” In 2015, she was featured in Joachim Trier’s film “Louder Than Bombs.”

Rachel Brosnahan subsequently starred in Walter Hill’s Western film “Dead for a Dollar” in 2022. Her subsequent credits include the spy thriller “The Amateur” and James Gunn’s reboot of “Superman,” where she portrays Lois Lane.

Personal Life

In 2018, it was reported that Rachel Brosnahan had wed actor Jason Ralph; however, she disclosed in January 2019 that they had been married “for years” before their relationship became public.

Both were present at the 76th Golden Globe Awards ceremony in 2019, during which she expressed her gratitude to him in her award acceptance speech.
