According to The Hollywood Reporter, Maverick director Joe Kosinski is poised to return to the director’s chair for “Top Gun 3.” Ehren Kruger, who co-wrote “Maverick,” is reportedly working on the screenplay for the third installment, as noted by Puck. This continuity in creative leadership suggests a commitment to maintaining the momentum and style that made “Maverick” a hit.
Casting Prospects: Cruise, Teller, and Powell
Paramount is apparently keen on bringing back the star-studded cast from “Maverick,” including Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, and Glen Powell. However, Cruise’s recent non-exclusive deal with Warner Bros. for original and franchise films, as reported by Variety, could influence his involvement. Teller, who played Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw in “Maverick,” mentioned in July 2022 that a third film would be “all up to Tom.” Powell, known for his role as Lieutenant Jake “Hangman” Seresin, is also attached to other major projects, including “Twisters.”

Interestingly, Joe Kosinski mentioned last year that Cruise “really didn’t want to” make a “Top Gun” sequel initially, particularly after the passing of the original film’s director Tony Scott.
