Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine was born in 1967 in Hanover, New Hampshire. He was born to Ugandan parents; his father is a Harvard-educated attorney, and his mother is a university-level psychology lecturer.
After his parents separated when he was seven, he spent time between the U.S. and Kenya, where his mother taught at the University of Nairobi.
