Madeline Brewer is a talented American actress. She gained recognition for her recurring roles in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black (2013) and Hemlock Grove (2014–2015), as well as for her leading performances as Janine Lindo in the Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale (2017–2025) and Brontë in the Netflix series You (2025).
Early Life & Education
Madeline Kathryn Brewer was born on May 1, 1992, and was raised in Pitman, New Jersey, as the daughter of actor and musician Laurie and Mark Brewer.
At the age of 8, she performed in A Christmas Carol. In 2009, she played the role of Dorothy Gale in her high school musical The Wiz.
In 2010, she was awarded the title of Miss Pitman after completing her senior year at Pitman High School. Brewer is an alumnus of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy located in New York City.
Madeline Brewer’s Career
Madeline Brewer made her television debut in 2013, taking on the recurring role of Tricia Miller in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. This was succeeded by a recurring role as Miranda Cates in Hemlock Grove, another Netflix production. In 2016, she was seen in the episode “Men Against Fire” of the anthology series Black Mirror.
In 2017, Brewer made her debut in feature films with Hedgehog and Flesh and Blood, and she began her role as Janine Lindo in the Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale.
In 2021, for the fourth season of The Handmaid’s Tale, Brewer was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards.
Madeline Brewer played prominent roles in the psychological horror films Braid and Cam, both released in 2018. In 2019, she took on supporting roles in the films Captive State and Hustlers. Additionally, she featured in the independent film Where Are You.
In 2021, she starred alongside Keean Johnson in the Hulu romantic comedy The Ultimate Playlist of Noise. That same year, she appeared in Separation, followed by her role in the 2022 film Space Oddity.
In 2023, Brewer made her debut on the West End stage as Sally Bowles in the London production of Cabaret at the Playhouse Theatre.
Personal Life
Madeline Brewer and her fiancé, Jack Thompson-Roylance, have been in a relationship since late 2022. They became engaged in January 2024.
Despite Madeline’s status as a prominent actress and Jack’s profession as a cinematographer, they choose to maintain a largely private relationship.
Nonetheless, they do make appearances together at public events. For instance, they attended the ATG Summer Party at Kensington Palace in September 2023.
Madeline and Jack are currently planning their wedding for July 2025 in England, and they appear to be enthusiastic about embarking on this new chapter of their lives.
