Liz McClarnon is an English singer, songwriter, and actress, recognized as the longest-serving member of the girl group Atomic Kitten. The group achieved three number-one singles and two number-one albums.
McClarnon has co-written multiple songs for Atomic Kitten, including the UK top 10 hits “See Ya,” “I Want Your Love,” and “Someone Like Me.”
Early Life
Elizabeth Margaret McClarnon-Cho was born on April 10, 1981, in Liverpool. In 1997, while still attending secondary school, McClarnon was encouraged by her music teacher to audition for OMD frontman Andy McCluskey, who was seeking to form a new girl group.
This group emerged as Atomic Kitten, composed of McClarnon, Kerry Katona, and Natasha Hamilton, and they released their debut record in 1999.
Atomic Kitten has achieved three number one singles in the UK: “Whole Again”, “Eternal Flame”, and “The Tide Is High (Get the Feeling)”.
Additionally, they have released two number-one albums in the UK, namely Right Now and Feels So Good, both of which have been certified double-platinum in the UK for exceeding 600,000 copies sold each. The estimated total sales worldwide amount to 6.2 million singles and 4 million albums.
Liz McClarnon’s Career
In 2005, Liz McClarnon signed a solo contract with All Around the World. In December, she took on the role of the opening act for the Magnet Tour, which was led by Robin Gibb. On 13 February 2006, she released her inaugural solo single, “Woman in Love”, a cover of Barbra Streisand’s 1980 hit.
On 27 December 2006, McClarnon appeared in the ITV documentary The Girl With the Golden Hair, performing three songs with Richard O’Brien: “Thank You for the Music”, “I Wonder (Departure)”, and “I’m a Marionette”.
In March 2007, Liz McClarnon recorded the song “(Don’t It Make You) Happy” in an effort to represent the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 but was unsuccessful, as the competition was won by Scooch.
From 2010 to 2011, she played the role of Beth in Jeff Wayne’s Musical Interpretation of The War of the Worlds. In 2011, Liz McClarnon was cast as Paulette for the first UK tour of Legally Blonde The Musical.

On January 31, 2013, the original members of Atomic Kitten—McClarnon, Hamilton, and Katona—reunited for The Big Reunion, alongside five other pop groups from their era—911, Honeyz, B*Witched, Five, and Liberty X. They have continued to perform live, touring across Europe ever since.
