Killed and Imprisoned Journalist: Times “Person of the Year” Issue

There have multiple cases on media personalities and reporters and many are behind bars. A committee made to protect journalist was made which showcased multiple cases.

They collected a set of min 262 cases belonging to 2017 only. These include cases from United States to Philippines where many were abducted and put behind bars. These people were alleged to supplying of fake news but were actually real news.

The top and most viral are discussed below.

Jamal Khashoggi

The reporter belonging to Washington Post and a United States resident.He killed after he published some critical news against Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.

This incident happened in Istanbul. The case was closed by CIA as they sense that the Prince should have ordered the murdering.

Four media personalities and one sales executive was murdered at Maryland’s State.

Later it was disclosed that a person who firstly sued the newspaper and the lost the case with harassment allegations put on himself. He planned the attack on the office.

Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe OO

These pair reporters working for the Reuters are in prison. Their mistake was that they published a secret of the colonial era of the state.  They even reported the mass killing of Rohingya Muslims.

Maria Ressa

The CNN Chief after retiring from the post began his own online news portal. The portal is called “Rappler” and mark its begining 2012. Publishing the critical analysis on the Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.

This marked a feud against the portal and also started a campaign of legal harassment by the Duterte’s Dept of Justice.
