Early Life

Kaitlyn Dever, originally named Kaitlyn Rochelle Dever, was born on December 21, 1996, in Phoenix, Arizona. She is the offspring of Tim Dever and the late Kathy Dever, both of whom were ice skating coaches.

Tim also had a brief stint voicing Barney the dinosaur in the PBS series ‘Barney & Friends.’ Kaitlyn has two younger siblings, Jane and Mady, and has collaborated musically with Mady under the aliases Hot Pink, Anime Pearl, and Beulahbelle.

At the age of five, Kaitlyn’s parents registered her in an acting school due to her burgeoning interest in the performing arts. In her early years, Dever also participated in gymnastics, ballet, and ice skating.

However, it was her viewing of Toni Collette in the 1999 film ‘The Sixth Sense’ that motivated her to concentrate on acting. Following her family’s move to Dallas, Texas, Kaitlyn featured in numerous commercials. The Dever family subsequently relocated to Los Angeles.

In 2011, she shared the screen with Diane Lane, Tim Robbins, and James Gandolfini in the Emmy-nominated HBO film ‘Cinema Verite.’ She starred alongside Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake, and Jason Segel in the comedy ‘Bad Teacher,’ and with Leonardo DiCaprio, Naomi Watts, and Dame Judi Dench in the biographical drama ‘J. Edgar.’

In 2011, Dever also made a guest appearance on ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ and started portraying Loretta McCready in the FX series ‘Justified’ as well as Eve Baxter in the ABC (later Fox) sitcom ‘Last Man Standing.’

Subsequently, she featured in the films ‘The Spectacular Now’ (2013), ‘Short Term 12’ (2013), ‘Laggies’ (2014), ‘Men, Women & Children’ (2014), ‘All Summers End’ (2017), ‘We Don’t Belong Here,’ ‘Detroit’ (2017), ‘Outside In’ (2017), ‘The Front Runner’ (2018), and ‘Beautiful Boy’ (2018).

In 2019, Kaitlyn Dever played the role of Marie Adler in the Netflix true crime miniseries “Unbelievable,” which garnered her first nomination for a Golden Globe.

Additionally, she featured in the film “Them That Follow” and shared the screen with Beanie Feldstein in the Olivia Wilde-directed movie “Booksmart,” a film that was included in over 60 critics’ top-ten lists.

She earned nominations for a Primetime Emmy and a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Betsy Mallum in the 2021 Hulu miniseries ‘Dopesick.’

In 2022, Dever appeared alongside Julia Roberts and George Clooney in ‘Ticket to Paradise’ and took on the lead role in the romantic comedy ‘Rosaline.’

In 2023, she made brief appearances in ‘Next Goal Wins’ and ‘Good Grief,’ and starred as Brynn Adams in ‘No One Will Save You,’ a horror film featuring only five words of dialogue.

In early 2024, it was revealed that Kaitlyn would portray Abby in the second season of the Emmy-nominated HBO post-apocalyptic series ‘The Last of Us.’
