How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is out in theatres now! The question everyone is asking is there a future for the franchise with How to Train Your Dragon 4? The first movie made $494 million worldwide and the second movie made $621 million worldwide.
Both the movies received a great reception from critics and audiences alike. The third and final movie of the trilogy How to Train Your Dragon is playing in the theaters now. The movie is already doing extremely well internationally and it will go down as another hit.
This is the age of franchises in Hollywood and it usually means the franchise will live on. However, is this the same case for the How to Train Your Dragon franchise?
How to Train Your Dragon trilogy
Based on the traditional structure, the third movie is going to be the final chapter of this story. The entire trilogy has been directed by Dean DeBlois. By the end of the third film, the stories of Hiccup and Toothless are largely finished.
They did that by reaching a satisfying end, the sort of happy ending that every story deserves. The third movie ends with Toothless and Hiccup reuniting after some time and it does leave the door open for a fourth edition.
When will How to Train Your Dragon 4 Release?
However, if you are waiting for a How To Train Your Dragon 4 release date, you will have to wait for a long time since there were four years between the first and second movie. The second and third movie had a gap of five years.
Scriptwriting, animation, etc. takes a lot of time and we are not even sure if there is going to be a fourth movie. However, if there is, we will have to wait till 2023 to watch it.
