Cheryl Hines was born on September 21, 1965, in Miami Beach, Florida, to parents Rosemary and James Hines. She grew up in Tallahassee, where she participated in the Young Actors Theatre. Hines attended Lively Technical College before transferring to Tallahassee Community College.

Before her notable rise to fame in Hollywood, Cheryl worked in several capacities, including as a waitress, telephone operator, and television reporter.

She then started her acting career by participating in improvisational comedy at the Groundlings Theater in Los Angeles, where she also acquired the skill of writing comedy sketches.

Cheryl Hines kicked off her acting journey with improvisational comedy at The Groundlings Theater, where she shared the stage with fellow student Lisa Kudrow.

She made notable guest appearances on TV shows like Swamp Thing and Unsolved Mysteries and even featured in a 1996 episode of The Dating Game, although no contestants selected her.

In 2003 and 2006, Cheryl Hines earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Curb Your Enthusiasm.

She also starred alongside Robin Williams in RV and Keri Russell in Waitress and was featured in the 2008 mockumentary The Grand, which parodies the World Series of Poker.

Hines made her directorial debut in 2009 with Serious Moonlight, featuring Meg Ryan and a script penned by the late Adrienne Shelly, who directed and co-starred with Hines in Waitress.

In the 2009 ABC sitcom In the Motherhood, Cheryl Hines portrayed Jane, a loose adaptation of a web series. Unfortunately, the show was canceled after airing only five of its intended seven episodes due to poor ratings.

During the 2009–2010 season of Brothers & Sisters, Hines made a guest appearance as Buffy, the campaign manager for Kitty Walker McCallister.

In July 2010, it was revealed that Hines would join the cast of the Nickelodeon film A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner!, where she plays the human version of Wanda, Timmy’s fairy godmother.

Cheryl Hines took on the role of executive producer for the 2010 reality show School Pride, which showcases the transformation of a different school each week.

She also played Dallas Royce in the ABC sitcom Suburgatory, which concluded in 2014 after three seasons. Additionally, Cheryl Hines featured in the web series We Need Help, available on Yahoo! Screen.

On January 29, 2014, she was honored with the 2,516th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Currently, Hines is a panelist on the singing game show I Can See Your Voice.

Personal Life

In December 2002, Cheryl tied the knot with Paul Young, the founder of the management firm Principato-Young. They had a daughter named Catherine but divorced in 2010.

Following that, Hines started a relationship with environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and they got married in 2014. Kennedy assumed the position of the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services in February 2025.
