Early Life & Education
Breckin Meyer, originally named Breckin Erin Meyer, was born on May 7, 1974, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He spent his childhood in California, West Virginia, Texas, and New Jersey.
Meyer was raised by his mother, Dorothy Ann, a travel agent and former microbiologist, and his father, Christopher, a management consultant, alongside his brothers Frank and Adam. Notably, Drew Barrymore, who attended the same elementary school, has mentioned that Breckin was her first kiss.
While in elementary school, he was signed by Barrymore’s agent, which marked the beginning of his appearances in television commercials as a child.
In 1983, he took part in the CBS game show ‘Child’s Play.’ After graduating from Beverly Hills High School, he was accepted into California State University, Northridge, but chose to pursue an acting career instead of attending college.

In 1986, Breckin Meyer lent his voice to the character Spud in the CBN Family Channel series ‘Potato Head Kids.’ He subsequently made guest appearances on ‘The Wonder Years’ in 1988, ‘Chicken Soup’ in 1989, and ‘L.A. Law’ in 1990, as well as featuring in the television films ‘…Where’s Rodney?’ and ‘Camp Cucamonga’ in 1990.
In 1991, he portrayed Spencer Lewis in ‘Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare,’ the sixth installment of Wes Craven’s ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ series.
From 1992 to 1993, Meyer was cast as Chas Walker in ABC’s ‘The Jackie Thomas Show,’ and from 1995 to 1996, he played Mike Solomon in the NBC sitcom ‘The Home Court.’

On October 14, 2001, Breckin Meyer married director and screenwriter Deborah Kaplan, with whom he had two daughters, Caitlin and Clover, prior to their divorce in 2014. Kaplan was a co-writer and co-director of two films in which Meyer starred, ‘Can’t Hardly Wait’ and ‘Josie and the Pussycats.’
