In 2016, the Imperative Entertainment acquired the rights for the movie. Since then, there were loose talks between Di Caprio and Scorcese about teaming up in the project.

Scorcese said that as soon as he read the novel, he started imagining it all in his mind. He was picturing how the people were moving, how the scene was done and how all the actions were taking place. He said that from then on, he was desperate to bring it on a movie.

He also expressed his excitement on working with one of his favorites, Leonardo Di Caprio. He said that he will be doing everything possible to bring this “unsettling” story to the big screen.

The script for the movie will be written down by Eric Roth. The production will commence in the summer of 2019.
