Devin White of the LSU Junior has been awarded the 2018 Dick Butkus Award. This annual award is presented to the best backline in college football.
The son of Chicago Bears legend Dick Butkus, Matt Butkus was presented with the 34th Butkus Award this Tuesday. The award ceremony took place in Lawton Room in the LSU Campus.
Devin White is the second LSU Tiger to be a national award recipient. Odell Beckham was the first one who won the Paul Hornung Award in 2013.
The other runners were Dylan Moses (Alabama), Devin Bush (Michigan), Josh Allen (Kentucky) and Tre Lamar (Clemson).
White has a blistering record of 17 tackles with an average of 4.0 tackles for loss. He also earned the title of Southeastern Conference Defensive Player twice in the current year.
In the last season, Devin White was named the best defensive player four times. This is an SEC record. He had 133 tackles in the last season.
